Julia Dorenwendt

Is a visual artist and writer. She graduated from the Master in Contemporary Arts Practice at HKB in Bern in 2017.

Her literary work and her visual art are mostly separate practices, while only sometimes the practices intertwine. Julia writes short novels, theater pieces and poetry. Subjects to her wiring are questions of identity, sexuality and violence. She writes in English and German. A text could consists of both languages or just one of them. English became for Julia a refuge, a second identity besides her mother tongue German.

In her visual arts practice she is aiming at transcendence both in the performance of creation as well as in the experience of the art work. Questions of order, disorder, rhythm, body space relations and seriality express themselves through geometry and different kind of media like porcelain, video and installation. To both her practices she applies a strict dedication as part of a meditative strategy.

She is a founding member of the artist run initiative SuperEgo that is based in Bern. She participated in the group exhibition Cantonale at Les Halles, Porrentpruey and at Kunsthalle Langenthal. Currently she organizes and curates the pop-up space SuperEgo in Bern.
